GALACTIC VISIONS

THE COLLIN CANTWELL EXPERIENCE

The Theresa Sondra Jacobs Foundation (TSJ) is proud to introduce Galactic Visions: The Colin Cantwell Legacy & Immersive STEAM Experience.

Join us on a journey through the stars as we honor the remarkable legacy of Colin Cantwell—an extraordinary artist, writer, and engineer whose visionary imagination brought to life some of the most iconic ships in Star Wars history and helped revolutionize the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

This project honors the fusion of Cantwell’s creative genius and groundbreaking contributions to STEAM. Colin’s ability to find creative solutions to complex problems led to unique opportunities to showcase his work, and ensured his legacy.

Galactic Visions is more than an exhibit, it’s an immersive journey through the legacy of one of sci-fi’s greatest designers. As visitors explore Cantwell’s work, they gain a deeper understanding of how creativity, design, and technology intersect to create worlds that inspire and educate. EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTS

DESIGN EVOLUTION GALLERY:
Explore Colin Cantwell’s original sketches, blueprints, and model designs in this interactive gallery that showcases the transformation from concept to cinematic icon. Touchscreen displays let visitors dive deep into his creative process, providing a unique learning experience about the fusion of art and engineering.

WORKSHOPS:
Participate in workshops where you can create your own spaceship models or design futuristic landscapes, just as Cantwell did. These sessions encourage creativity and introduce the basics of 3D modeling and design principles.

HOLOGRAPHIC STORYTELLING & INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS:
CParticipate in workshops where you can create your own spaceship models or design futuristic landscapes, just as Cantwell did. These sessions encourage creativity and introduce the basics of 3D modeling and design principles.

TRIBUTE TO INNOVATION:
The exhibit closes with a tribute wall that celebrates Cantwell’s legacy, encouraging visitors to think about their own potential to innovate and create. Through interactive displays, visitors are invited to dream big, envision their contributions to the future, and reflect on how they can shape the world.

IMMERSIVE STEAM EXPERIENCE: MAKER SPACE EVENTS

Maker space events in the Colin Cantwell exhibit offer a range of hands–on, interactive activities that align with his unique approach to art, science, and technology.

The TSJ team will collaborate with the host to create activities that cater to their unique visitor. Here are examples of some Maker Space Event activities.

DESIGN YOUR OWN SPACESHIP

3D PRINTING WORKSHOP
Activity:
Using simple design software, visitors can digitally build their own spacecraft or structure inspired by Cantwell’s works. Their designs can then be 3D printed to take home.

Learning Focus:
Digital design and 3D printing technology, teaching visitors how technology can turn imaginative concepts into real–world models.

CREATE A UNIQUE UNIVERSE

MODELING SOFTWARE & SPACECRAFT DESIGN
Activity:
Using modeling software, visitors can learn how to design their own spacecraft or robots in a virtual environment. They will explore how designers create interactive elements, engineer these concepts, and bring them to life for use in film and set design.

BE THE STAR OF THE SHOW

INTERACTIVE HOLOGRAM STATION
Activity:
Visitors could create and interact with their own holograms, similar to the holographic concepts used in Cantwell’s later work. They could record short clips or create holographic displays of space–themed objects.

CREATE YOUR OWN SOLAR SYSTEM

PLANETARIUM DESIGN CHALLENGE
Activity:
Teams could design their own small–scale projection of a fictional solar system, building on Cantwell’s influence in OMNIMAX and IMAX. This project could involve elements of art, astronomy, and engineering.
